The Explore CSR Workshop will be held in Rekhi Hall at Michigan Technological University. Michigan Tech is a friendly campus of 7,000 students located in Houghton, MI on the waterfront of Portage Lake and the Keweenaw Waterway. Just a few miles from campus, on either end of the waterway, lies Lake Superior—the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area There is a 4.5 mile long walking and biking trail along the waterfront that leads to several nature trails outside of town. The area is rich in natural wonder; a rugged and beautiful land.

By Car
From the East and Southeast (Eastern U.P., Lower Michigan) Navigate your way through the Lower Peninsula, across the Mackinac Bridge, and toward Marquette. We suggest following US-2 west along the north shore of Lake Michigan, turning right on M-77, and heading north to M-28. At M-28 turn left and head west to Marquette. Once in Marquette:
  1. Follow the roundabout to the left as M-28 becomes US-41.
  2. Follow US-41 North to Houghton.
  3. US-41 becomes Townsend Drive. The Admissions Office is located in the John Edgar McAllister Welcome Center at the Memorial Union Building.
  4. Turn right to enter the parking area near the Memorial Union Building.
From the South (Green Bay, Milwaukee, Chicago) Travel north along the western shore of Lake Michigan. North of Green Bay, you’ll pick up US-141. From there:
  1. Follow US-141 to M-28 to US-41 North.
  2. US-41 becomes Townsend Drive. The Admissions Office is located in the John Edgar McAllister Welcome Center at the Memorial Union Building.
  3. Turn right to enter the parking area near the Memorial Union Building.
From the Southwest (Northern and North Central Wisconsin) From central Wisconsin, traveling through Eagle River is the easiest way to make it to campus. From Eagle River, head north on US-45 to M-26. Once in Houghton:
  1. Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for US-41 South.
  2. Follow US-41 until the beginning of campus. The Admissions Office is located in the John Edgar McAllister Welcome Center at the Memorial Union Building.
  3. Turn left to enter the parking area near the Memorial Union Building.
From the West (Minnesota) The most direct route from Minnesota to Michigan Tech is through Duluth. Follow US-2 east to M-28 in Wakefield, Michigan. Continue east on M-28 to US-45. Turn left and head north to M-26. Once in Houghton:
  1. Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for US-41 South.
  2. Follow US-41 until the beginning of campus. The Admissions Office is located in the John Edgar McAllister Welcome Center at the Memorial Union Building.
  3. Turn left to enter the parking area near the Memorial Union Building.
By Plane

SkyWest, a partner of United Airlines, currently services the Houghton County Memorial Airport (code CMX), located about eight miles north of campus. Daily flights are available to and from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. Visit SkyWest/United Airlines or call 800-864-8331 for ticketing information.

Rental cars from Alamo and National, as well as a taxi service, are available at the airport.

Directions from the Houghton County Memorial Airport to Michigan Tech

  1. Leave the airport and drive down Airport Road until you reach the stop sign at US-41.
  2. Turn left (south) onto US-41. Continue through Hancock and over the bridge into Houghton.
  3. Follow US-41 South through the loop. About two miles after the bridge, you will arrive on campus.
